Lois Wilson Stearns

Lois Wilson Stearns passed away on September 11, 2023, at Four Hills Bee Hive Homes. She was 90 years old.

Lois was born to Roy “Pat” and Irene Wilson in 1933, in the Bertie School area of Bay County, Michigan. She was a 1949 graduate of Pinconning High School and a graduate of Northeastern School of Commerce. From there she went to work for DOW Chemical and then moved to Houston, Texas working for Humble Oil and Refining Company.

This is where her adventurous life began. While in Houston, Lois met and married Lt. Charles Stearns on May 21, 1953, at the First Christian Church in downtown Houston, Texas. She has lived in Hampton Roads, Virginia, while her husband was at Langley AFB, then to Moses Lake, Washington. Upon leaving the military, they moved to Greeley, Colorado, while her husband finished his BA and MA. From there they moved to Altus, and then on to Boulder, Colorado, with a year spent in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. After 20 years in Boulder, they moved to LaCanada Flintridge, California. Upon retirement, they made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lois is survived by two sons: Mark (Nancy) of Redmond, Oregon and Charles of Conifer, Colorado: a niece LaRae Holbrook, and a nephew Wayne Holbrook.

She was predeceased by her parents, a sister Patricia Holbrook, a brother Kenneth Wilson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Tommy and Marie Stearns, Neil and Dorothea Stearns, and Joe and Joyeline Costen.

Lois worked in the legal and tax fields for many years and retired from California Institute of Technology as Estate and Trust Administrator. While in California, she was a member of the LaCanada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association. The Association raised money for the float in the Rose Parade. She was County Court Reporter and Deputy Court Clerk under Judge Rutherford in Jackson County, Oklahoma.

After retirement she was a volunteer income tax preparer for AARP. She had also served as a den mother for cub scouts for several years, stayed busy taking care of her family and working part time in a law office.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Boulder, Colorado. Lois was also a member of the Canyon Club at Four Hills and Four Hills Neighbors. Lois enjoyed her bridge clubs and social life in her Four Hills Village community in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Upon her request cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder, in the Stearns family plot.
