Tillman County Farmers Market opens May 14
Tillman County Farmers Market will have its Grand Opening for the 2022 season on May 14. Besides fresh vegetables, vendors also have eggs, baked goods, meats, plants, crafts, and other items. The hours are 8 – 11 a.m. each Saturday through August 13. Special activities will also be held through the summer.
Tillman County Farmers Market also participates in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Additionally, it is a part of the Double Up Oklahoma (DUO) program, a health food incentive program that helps low-income families eat more healthy food and supports local farmers.
Under Double Up Oklahoma, people who participate in the SNAP (also known as food stamps) can swipe their SNAP=EBT card at the market information table to buy SNAP tokens and receive a matching number of DUO tokens (up to $20 per day). They may use the DUO tokens for any fresh fruits and vegetables. The DUO tokens can be used any time before August 13.
“We’re excited to be a part of a program that helps low-income families stretch their food dollars, “ said Lynn Hammack, Market Manager. “The Tillman County Farmers Market is a family-friendly place where people connect with the farmers who grow their food, try new foods, learn new cooking techniques, and set lifelong habits of eating and loving fresh fruits and vegetables.”
Double Up Oklahoma is a program of Hunger Free Oklahoma, whose mission is to leverage the power of collaboration to solve hunger in Oklahoma by improving systems, policies, and practices.
