Jerry Louis Downen

Jerry Louis Downen passed from this life June 17, 2022, in Mangum. Jerry was born to Louis and Janell Downen on September 10, 1959, in Sentinel.

He grew up in Lone Wolf and Roosevelt. Jerry attended Lone Wolf Public Schools and graduated Lone Wolf High School in 1977. He had many years of service with the Lone Wolf Ambulance, and was also a firefighter for Lone Wolf and Roosevelt, a member of the First Baptist Church of Roosevelt, a member of the Hobart band booster, was a Parent President from 2004 to 2008 and his grandchildren called him “Papa”.

Jerry enjoyed coyote hunting, watching OU softball and football, watching his grandkids compete in rodeos and play sports, cuddling with his dogs Misti and Chiquita but most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sherry Downen of Roosevelt; sons: Jerry Downen and wife Kendra of Altus, Kyle Downen and wife Sarah of Midwest City, daughters, Jennifer Tucker and husband Zack of Blair, Laira Hendrickx and husband Chris of Lawton; sisters: Karen Merida and the late Boyd of Midwest City, Vickie Shelbourne and husband Jimmie of Durant; and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Janell (Miles) Downen, grandparents, Nina Gertrude, Cooper Miles and Otis Hubert Miles, Myrtle Bearman, Jacob M. Downen and JM Graves.

A memorial service for Jerry is scheduled for July 23, 2022, 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Roosevelt with Pastor Kevin Slough officiating.
