Seeking Support: Girl Scouts need new leader to carry on long tradition

March 23, 2023

Ava Wright has been the Girl Scout Leader here in Snyder for a number of years. Her daughter is aging out and so are many of the girls she started with, so she’s decided to retire with them this year.

Wright is currently looking for someone to take over as the new Girl Scout Leader. This person needs to really care about children, have patience and understanding, and truly enjoy teaching girls about themselves and the world, she said.

"I can tell you, the girls that I have had have taught me many things, probably more than I have taught them," Wright said. "We have laughed, cried, comforted each other, and worked through many hard times. It is difficult for me to step down from this position, but I do so with a full heart."

Wright plans to provide support and help out the new leader for a period of at least six months. All of the previous Girl Scout books, manuals, and supplies that have accumulated over the years will be provided for the troops. Girl Scouts is a Christian-based group that focuses on teaching girls the value of themselves, as well as the value of the world around them.

“Please, somebody needs to step up for this group to keep these girls going,” she said. “Although three will be graduating, more may join with a new leader. Please support them and help them to continue to learn and grow.”

Anyone interested in learning more about the program’s needs can contact Wright at 580-458-9110, text is preferred.
