Harold Doss Powers

Funeral services for Harold Doss Powers, 86 year-old Hydro resident, will be held Thursday, May 20, 2021, 2 p.m. in “The Chapel” of Lockstone Funeral Home with Earl Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Clinton Cemetery.

Harold was born December 5, 1934, on a farm northwest of Lone Wolf, to James and Addie (Law) Powers and passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro. Harold was raised and attended school in Lone Wolf, graduating with the Class of 1952.
He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater studying veterinary medicine. Harold joined the United States Army in 1957 and was trained as a mechanic and in vehicle recovery. While in the Army he earned a medal for Expert Marksman with a rifle. After the Army, he attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1961.

On December 22, 1961, he married Eleanor Carol Vineyard in Weatherford. They lived in Sentinel from 1961 to 1964 where he taught high school biology and chemistry; and farmed near Lone Wolf. They moved to Weatherford in 1965 where he taught biology and chemistry at the high school. Harold earned his Master’s in Education in 1970 from Southwestern State College and continued to teach both high school and junior high until 1984. He continued to farm at both Lone Wolf and Foss for many years after and was also very active volunteering and helping while his son was involved in Vo-Ag and FFA.

Harold enjoyed fishing, shooting, tooling leather and gun-smithing. He had a special place in his heart for horses and dogs, but especially for his two grandsons.

Harold is survived by his son, Zachary Powers and wife, Rhonda; two grandsons, Gunner Powers and Cabbet Powers all of Weatherford; two nieces, Jimmie Kay Powers of Fort Worth, Texas and Darla Knight and her husband, John of Oklahoma City; and nephew, Terry Vineyard and his wife, Karin of Eakly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Addie Powers; his wife, Carol; his two brothers, James Powers and Israel Powers; his sister, Ida Mae Uptergrove; and three nephews, Jerry Graumann, Darrell Graumann and Butch Powers.

Harold touched many lives throughout his career and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
