Volney Purser Jr.

Graveside service for Volney Purser Jr. will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Mountain Park Cemetery, with Elder Norman Jones and Elder Art Barker of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Snyder, officiating.
Burial with military honors will be under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home of Snyder.
Volney Purser Jr., 77, Mountain Park passed away Friday, June 25, 2021, at his home in Mountain Park.
He was born November 3, 1944, in Snyder to Volney and Letha Mae Christina (Cox) Purser. He graduated from Snyder High School in the Class of 1963. Shortly after graduation he moved to Peoria, Illinois, where he was drafted into the US Army. He served in Vietnam and returned to Snyder in 1968. He was employed by Frisco Railroad when he met and married Latrica Cook on September 27, 1969. They moved to Oklahoma City where he was employed at Western Electric. They moved back to Snyder in 1973. He then was employed by Schlegel manufacturing in Frederick for 16 years as maintenance superintendent. Before retiring for good, Volney worked at CR Industries in Hobart.
Survivors include his wife Latrica of the home; a son Vaughn Purser and wife Jessica of Clinton; daughter Shanna Norton and husband Bryan of Snyder; adopted son Scott Hamilton and wife Toni of Elk City; brother John Purser and wife Bernice of Rush Springs; sister Georgia Young of Snyder; six grandchildren: Paige and Peyton Huckaby of Snyder, Carly and Logan Purser of Clinton, Ashton and Kevin Norton of Snyder; adopted granddaughter Shyla Knott and husband A.J. of Snyder; great-grandchildren: Mason and Maddox Knott of Snyder; four nieces: Monica Shelton of Snyder, Tina Balinger of Enid, Sherry Thurston of Rockford, Illinois, Karen Johnson and husband Bill of Tucson, Arizona; nephews: Charley Young of Oklahoma City, Rodney Young and wife Sherry of Mountain Park, Jesse and wife Kim Young of Snyder, Matt Shelton and wife Kayla of Kansas, Jared Young of Snyder, Casey Young of Snyder, Mark and wife Gerri Brunson of Tucson, Arizona; numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, and a host of church family and friends. We are blessed!
Volney was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bobbie Purser, nephew Rocky Young, father and mother-in-law Clem and Lilly Cook and brother and sister-in-law Bob and Margaret Brunson.
