David Lanig, 77, of Mountain Park, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as the result of an automobile accident in Caney, Oklahoma. At the time of the accident, David was residing with his son in Caney.
David was born in Hobart, Oklahoma, and was raised in Mountain Park, where he graduated from high school. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford for one year before deciding to pursue a different path.
Throughout his life, David worked in a variety of occupations, but he spent most of his career as a carpenter. Following the passing of his father, he also worked alongside his brother, Darrell, operating the family farm. In his younger years, David enjoyed many adventures and spent countless hours at lakes and rivers with his brothers and cousins, traveling from Alaska to Mexico.
In 1975, David welcomed his son, David Jason Lanig, into the world. From that moment forward, Jason became the center of his life. David was a devoted father who treasured spending time outdoors with his son, fishing, boating, and enjoying the lakes and rivers together. As Jason grew older, David passed along the values of hard work and taught him the family farming business.
David was also a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as "PaPa," to his two granddaughters, Danica and Bristol. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and took great joy in being a part of their lives.
Survivors include his son, Jason Lanig and wife, CeDana, of Caney, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Danica and Bristol Lanig; sister, Ann Butler and husband, Terry, of Lake Kiowa, Texas; sister-in-law, Diane Melton Lanig of Quitman, Mississippi; nephews, Steven Butler, Randall Butler, and Michael Duke; nieces, Gina Butler and Jennifer Fortune Fortenberry; and numerous cousins and extended family members.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Antone Lanig and Edrie Lanig Willis; and his brothers, Bobby Lanig and Darrell Lanig.
