Betty Ruth Moore

Betty Ruth Moore, 98, of Roosevelt, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 4, 2026.
Betty was born on January 10, 1928, in Mountain Park, to Joseph Marvin Gresham and Zola Mae Gresham (Sockwell). She graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1946 and married John W. Starcher in 1949. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, welcoming four children: Judy Tripp, Janet Shirley, Johnny Starcher, and Jeri Buchanan.
The young family began life on the family farm near Mountain Park. In the early 1960s, they moved to Roosevelt where they owned and operated Starcher's Thrift-T-Wise Grocery, becoming a familiar and valued part of the community.
Never one to stop learning, Betty earned her Master's Degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Teaching became one of her life's greatest callings. She devoted 20 years to education, teaching 13 years in Roosevelt and seven years in Hobart. The lives she touched extended far beyond the classroom, as former students often shared stories of the lasting influence she had on them.
After John's passing in March 1987, Betty married Howard Moore Jr. in 1990. Together they enjoyed fishing, traveling, and making treasured memories with their grandchildren until Howard's passing in July 1994.
A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Betty faithfully served as a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Roosevelt. She spent many years as church treasurer and also faithfully served as treasurer for the Roosevelt Senior Citizens Center.
To those who knew her best, Betty was the steadfast rock of the family. Life brought its share of hardships, yet she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She simply continued trusting Jesus, serving others, loving her family, and faithfully showing up every day. She never sought recognition; serving others was simply who she was.
Betty found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading, traveling, working puzzles, playing rummy, and making the original Hershey's fudge. Nothing delighted her more than laying down the perfect rummy hand that left everyone else losing points, followed immediately by her unforgettable cackle. That cackle, along with her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, will forever remain one of the family's sweetest memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Marvin Gresham and Zola Mae Gresham; her husbands, John W. Starcher and Howard Moore Jr.; her brothers, Glenn Gresham and Elton Gresham; her sisters, Dorothy Starcher and Sybil Williams; and her grandson, Shawn Talley.
She is survived by her children, Judy Tripp of Yukon; Janet and Randy Shirley of Duncan, Johnny and Donna Starcher of Amarillo, Texas; and Jeri and Mert Buchanan of Sentinel; her grandchildren, Shane Talley of El Reno; Shannon Talley of Yukon; Miranda and Kevin Laminack of Blanchard; Wesley and Courtney Mitchell of The Colony, Texas; Johnna Buchanan and Alex Elliott of Portland, Oregon; Hannah and Cody Smith of Hobart; and Mariah Buchanan of Oklahoma City; her sister, Geraldine Woodward of Amarillo, Texas; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, treasured caregivers from Woodland Gardens, and dear friends.
Betty's life was a beautiful example of unwavering faith, quiet strength, humble service, steadfast perseverance, and unconditional love. The legacy she leaves behind is not measured by possessions or accomplishments, but by the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, and faithful walk with Christ.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Roosevelt First Baptist Church.
The funeral was August 8, 2026, at the First Baptist Church, Roosevelt, and interment at Roosevelt Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
