Fifty Years Ago…
Mr. and Mrs. James G. Blaine were honored on Sunday, July 4th in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary. A formal afternoon reception in the Blaine home, hosted by their five daughters and their respective families, commemorated this most memorable event. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine were married on July 4, 1931 in Lawton, Okla. The traditional anniversary Red Ruby along with the additional holiday colors of blue and white carried the theme throughout the lovely fete. Guests attending to extend their hearty congratulations to the happy couple were welcomed by the hosts and hostesses: Mr. and Mrs. Roger Callahan of Houston, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Biggs of Leveland, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Reser of Wichita Falls, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Smith of Oklahoma City; and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Marshall of Phoenix, Arizona. As long-time residents of this area, they were greeted by a large number of friends and family coming from near and far to share their happy day. The guests were served equisite refreshments from a silver laden table accented by lace and freshly cut flowers. The Blaines were joyous to recall their most rewarding and pleasant memories of their long and happy marriage, and were equally anxious to call attention to their 11 beautiful grandchildren: Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Brown of Cyril; Robin Callahan, Jim, Penny and Jill Biggs, Regan and Melissa Reser, Rani, Greg and Grant Smith. A most gracious and precious affair to remember celebrated by a most exuberant and lovely couple was a joyful delight for all. The mode for the day seemed to be unequaled anxiety for an additional forty years of “wedded bliss.” We wish them just that.

Sixty Years Ago…
Although the potential of harm is great – the finding of three TNT bombs in Snyder the past several days, has caused but little concern to citizens. The first bomb was recovered from a boy last Saturday night and is a contraption of one-fourth pound of TNT, wired to a electrical blasting cap. Two other bombs were picked up Tuesday night, one was in the fork of a tree and the other in a small shed at a Snyder residence. The incident is still under investigation, County Attorney W. A. Bolding said Wednesday, but he hopes all of the “bombs” have been recovered. They have been turned to the Explosives Disposal unit of the 61st Ordnance Detatchment at Ft. Sill.. Several boys have ben questioned and released who apparently did not realize the danger that could come from the bombs. Snyder officers who found the first three bombs have been assisting with the investigation.
