John R. Smith

Private graveside services for John R. Smith, 79, of Tipton, will be held at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Don Altom officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Smith passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at The Courtyards at Magnolia Creek in Altus.

John R. Smith was born May 5, 1942, in Tipton to John Charles and Bessie Helen (Baird) Smith. He attended Frederick Public School, graduating from Frederick High School in 1960. He later attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 19, 1972, he and Beverly Beth Davis were united in marriage at the Hulen United Methodist Church, east of Lawton. John worked for Rural Electric Cooperative for many years as a warehouse foreman. He was a member of the Tipton First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching westerns on the TV; his favorites were “Bonanza” and “The Lone Ranger”.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Smith; one daughter, Beth Ann Johnson and her husband Tim of Tipton; one granddaughter, Presley Johnson of Tipton; one sister, Linda Cutler of Oklahoma City; and one nephew, John Ausley of Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Helen Smith; and one daughter, Sheryl Su Smith.
