Celebration of Life for Joe Mack Shelton age 69, of rural Snyder will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Snyder with Rev. Diana Steiger officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Snyder under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Shelton passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at his home west of Snyder.

Joe Mack Shelton was born May 16, 1952, in Snyder to Wilton Julius and Dorothy Myrle (Estoll) Shelton. He attended Mountain Park Public Schools, graduating from Mountain Park High School with the Class of 1970. He was an outstanding basketball player and was the star shooter against the Snyder Cyclones, having made 49 points in one game. He later attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford. Joe Mack was a self-employed carpenter and contractor. He built underground homes, cellars and remodeled many homes in the area. He previously had worked painting the Oklaunion Power Plant. Joe Mack was an outdoorsman; he loved fishing, hunting, and was a very competitive golfer. He was quite the jokester, always having a funny story to tell. He was a mentor for many young boys; he loved children in general and wanted the best for their lives.

He is survived by two daughters: Shana McGarrah and her husband Denver Sr. of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Nikki Hale and her husband Brandon of Mountain Park; two sons: Quanah Smith and his wife Meghan of Snyder, and Clayton Smith of Snyder; three brothers: Larry Shelton and his wife Ann of Porterville, California, James Shelton of Medicine Park, and Perry Shelton and his wife Brenda of Altus; five sisters: Charlena Idell of Tipton, California, Shirlena Ayers and her husband Pat of Snyder, Anita Shelton of Mountain Park, Janice Crume and her husband Dennis of Snyder, and Angela Shelton of Mountain Park; ten grandchildren: Denver McGarrah Jr. and his wife Jodi, Gene McGarrah, Shiane McGarrah, Nathan Hale, Braelen Hale, Teaghan Smith, Jentry Smith, Kaylee Smith, Caydance Smith, and Corbyn Smith; three great-grandchildren: Hudson McGarrah, Maverick McGarrah, and Rhett McGarrah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton and Dorothy Shelton; one daughter, Leah Fawn Shelton; one brother, Leslie Shelton; and one sister, Brenda Blankinship.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice in memory of Joe Mack Shelton.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick.
