Valdean Dobson

Valdean Ruth Keller Dobson passed away Sunday morning at the age of 81.

She was raised in Snyder, and having settled in East Tennessee to raise her family, her life was filled with passion for her work at The Greeneville Sun, as copy editor. The mention of the OU Sooners always lit her up with an infectious smile! She and her late husband, Reverend Wally Dobson, were both members of the board for Habitat for Humanity for several years. Val was very musical and had an angelic voice which she lent her fellows at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in past years, our mom was a true matriarch and beautiful woman.

She was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include four children: Jeff Keller, Laurie Evans, Jacque Lyons, and Pamela Waddell; step-children: Joe Dobson, M.D., Howard Dobson, Evelyn Fikse, Patti Tornquist, and Sue Ingram; grandchildren: Sarah Keller, Eric (Jessica) Evans, Andrew (Megan) Evans, Courtney Wilson, Jordan Wilson, and Cory Mathes; eleven great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Valdean was preceded in death by her husband: Rev. Howard Wallis “Wally” Dobson, who died in 2015; son-in-law: Phillip Evans; parents: Rev. Paul B. Spears and Helen Spears; siblings: Allen Spears and Evalee Poellet; and her biological mother, who passed away when Valdean was three years old.

The funeral service will be Saturday, February 26, in the Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tammy Greene officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
